Here’s how I use a combination of yoga, meditation, healthy eating, exercise, and a few other tricks to stay happy, healthy, and sane.
I’m not a doctor, so please take this advice with a grain of salt. It’s just what works for me.
STEP 1: Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is a tricky thing. Too little, and you wake up tired. Too much, and you’ll have a hard time falling asleep. Getting enough sleep is essential to a healthy lifestyle, and it’s a tough habit to form.
The best thing you can do to improve your sleep is to get a good night’s rest every night. If you can’t fall asleep, try getting up at least once during the night and read or write down your thoughts.
STEP 2: Eat Healthy
The next most important step to a healthy lifestyle is eating healthy. Most people don’t realize just how many calories are in their favorite foods. For example, a single slice of pizza has about 800 calories, while an entire bag of Doritos has more than 900. That’s a lot of calories!
It’s best to eat less than you burn off throughout the day, so don’t feel guilty about cutting back on calories. Also, avoid eating too late at night. By the time you get home from work, you probably haven’t eaten all day. It’s best to eat a light dinner, and then go to bed.
STEP 3: Exercise Regularly
Exercise is another essential part of a healthy lifestyle. If you’re sedentary, it’s easy to sit around and eat junk food. A few minutes of cardio here and there will never make a difference. But when you exercise regularly, you’re burning off calories and becoming healthier.
The best way to start exercising is to walk. Even if you only walk 5 miles per week, it’s still a good start. If you want to be more serious, you can start by walking a mile every other day.
You’ll also burn more calories after you eat. If you exercise after you eat, you’re more likely to feel fuller, and you’ll have to eat less. This is why I recommend eating a light dinner and going to bed early.
STEP 4: Take Care of Yourself
One of the biggest problems in life is stress. Stress affects our relationships, our health, and even our ability to learn. If you let it get out of control, you can become sick, depressed, or even die.
The best way to combat stress is to practice self-care. This can include things like meditation, taking a break, and eating healthy.
STEP 5: Have Fun
We all know that having fun is important to a healthy lifestyle, but we rarely get the chance to have fun. We work, and we have responsibilities, and we never have enough time to enjoy ourselves.
The best way to have fun is to make time for it. Plan to spend time with friends or family, and make sure to have some free time for yourself. Don’t spend all your free time watching TV or playing video games.
